The pattern for my favorite sweater this season is releasing on Friday! The Bind Off sweater features just enough interest to keep you entertained while knitting, but isn't so challenging that you need to keep your pattern near you.
This sweater, like a lot of my sweaters, is knit from the bottom up beginning with a provisional // tubular cast on. The sweater body features an all over button hole pattern that sets up on one row and then completes the following row making it really satisfying as it stacks up. The shoulders are seamed and then sleeves are knit on. Lastly the neckline twisted rib is knit on and then folded back.
I absolutely love how the buttonholes show off your garment or body beneath it. They are large enough to see color but not large enough to show detail. You could easily change the look of your outfit by wearing this sweater with something else underneath it.
I knit two samples of this sweater with very different yarns so you could see what swapping out yarn does to the garment. The pattern version (the taupe one) was knit with Les Garcons British DK which is a lovely non superwash yarn held with the same colorway of their Mohair Silk. The colorway is called "Cheryl's Coal Grey" which is a perfect color name for those girl group fans out there. The fabric this combo creates is glowy, slightly drapey, very light and very warm.
The second version of the sweater that I knit was made in 100% Andean Highland Wool- also a non superwash wool yarn but a slightly heavier weight. This version creates crisper bind offs, a more graphic approach. It is less drapey and more classic hand knit. Farmers Daughter Pushkin or Cascade Ecowool would be lovely swaps for this yarn.
This is a rare pattern that I opted to have text knit // marketing sample knit so that I could make sure the instructions were clear. I love seeing everyone's versions so I will share some below. Thank you to Lea, Elaine, Jane, Ken, Emma, Alexis, Maija, Mariko, Isabel + Heather for knitting these beautiful sweaters.
