Spincycle Yarns x DEGEN

The Bon Bon Scarf

Everytime I am ready to cast on a new design I reach for the most beautiful Spincycle Yarns Dreamstate and then realize I am quite the control freak with color.  I think the color undulation of the yarn is so so beautiful but sometimes in a pattern not intended for its power, it just doesnt work and so it has been put back into the stash...until now.  Because of this, I have typically reached for the predictable and still gorgeous beauty of their base Trine- but the most interesting design to me comes from working within a limitation.  This time I decided to design something specifically for Dreamstate to allow it to undulate and shine in all of its twisty turny glory.

The Bon Bon scarf is named for its candy-eque repeat but was inspired by the classic scarflette pattern of apres-ski.  I love the close-to-the-neck shape and that the one side can pull through to create a cozy color pop.  I wanted to recreate this idea but with brioche.  I'm particularly in love with the fact that this pattern does not require shaping of any kind- it just leverages the natural ability of brioche to expand and rib to contract.  The rib sections are "double knit" (not really) to create a pocket that you can use to pull one end through the other.  The result is a double wrap scarflette that works like the reference but is so much more contemporary.

If you have never tried brioche before but feel confident knitting and purling, this is the perfect pattern for you.  You get to do straight away's of 2 color brioche and then some classic rib sections.  And the result is perfect for the transitional weather.

Thank you again to my friends at Spincycle for collaborating with me on this piece!

The Bon Bon Scarf drops at 10am ET on Thursday March 13th
