In celebration of Knit Club's 1st birthday as a brick and mortar store, we collaborated with one of our favorite yarn dyers, Madeline Tosh, for some custom colors.
At Knit Club, there’s always been one Madelinetosh colorway that flies off the shelves and finds its way into just about everyone’s project bag: Ginseng. With its unexpected bursts of orange, blue, and brown, this space-dyed beauty became a community favorite—not just for how it looked in the skein, but for the way it knit up, surprising you with every stitch.
When we had the opportunity to work with the team at Madeline Tosh to develop custom colorways just for Knit Club, Ginseng was our jumping-off point. We knew we wanted that same magic—that painterly quality, the dynamic color shifts—but we also wanted to reimagine it through the DEGEN lens.
That meant bringing in our signature palette: a soft, buttery “dirty” yellow, our house red (aka Knit Club Red), a grounding deep brown, and a creamy neutral with just the right amount of speckling.
Of course, getting to the perfect combo was a process. The first few rounds of samples came close but didn’t quite capture the balance we were after. One version leaned too yellow, another had speckles that ran into the rest of the palette. But working alongside the incredibly thoughtful dyers at Madeline Tosh, we fine-tuned each pass, dialing in the tones and the spacing of each section until it felt just right. Below are some out takes.
We wanted a yarn that felt playful but grounded, one that echoed our creative community’s boldness while still being totally wearable. A yarn that could stand alone in a simple pattern, or be part of a wilder, more experimental knit. When we acheived the perfect balance of colors with our colorway KNIT CLUB we realized that we would love to see this combo on mohair. Mohair does not take speckles well because of its fuzzy halo so we created a modified verson for Mohair called In the Club - a speckless Silk Cloud Mohair colorway.
We’re so proud of how Knit Club and In The Club turned out—and we can’t wait to see what you make with them. Whether you’re casting on a classic pullover or a scrappy accessory, we hope these colorways bring some of that joyful, surprising energy to your needles.
