NO Mittens and Garter Stripe Hat Knitting Patterns

This Thursday, September 25th, we’re releasing two new knitting patterns together: the Gather Stripe Hat and the NO Mittens. They’re designed as companions because you can make both with just two skeins of our DEGEN DK yarn. For the samples, we used Ferrari (a fiery red) and Linen (a soft neutral) and topped the hat with one of our signature smiley pom poms.

When I started designing these pieces, I wanted to make something that felt like protest. A hat that puts joy first and mittens that spell out NO. Because sometimes knitting can be more than warm clothes. It can be a banner, a sign, a declaration. It can also be a mantra that you repeat to yourself or aloud. 

Anyone can be arrested for just being right now—for being Black, for being trans, for being a protestor, for supporting life over genocide. These patterns were born out of that reality: a small act of resistance, a way to wear protest on your body, and to hold onto craft as a tool of defiance and care. 

I can’t wait to see these knit up in different colorways, on different hands, in different contexts, given as gifts. Whether you wear them marching, gathering, or just moving through your day, I hope they bring you warmth, boldness, and solidarity.
